“Operating the wheel for the past ten years of my life has made me a witness to the many bittersweet experiences people live inside these capsules. I am Mahendra Thapa (27), your Ferris wheel operator at Kathmandu Fun Park, Pradarshani Marga. I work together with my team of three others to provide you the fun of riding on this amusement ride.

The task is not as easy as it might have been to operate an automatic wheel. This ride here uses gear that needs constant looking after and control. The wheel has been twenty four years old. It is constantly maintained and is checked every morning before the park opens but the only bar in all the compartments is the only safety mechanism while people use it. It can’t be credited with utmost security.

With daily visitors of about (divide 500 with the rate for the ride) on weekdays and about (divide 1600 with the rate) on the weekends, the ride is quite popular. So safety standards should be prioritised. Until that happens, I want people to cooperate with us and forgive us if we default at some point just like we don’t mind their certain habits.”
